How long does kitchen renovation take?

If you’re planning on renovating your kitchen, you’re probably wondering how long the process will take. Depending on the extent of the renovation, it typically takes between two to six weeks. We will discuss the various factors that can affect how long a kitchen renovation takes. We’ll also provide some tips to help minimize the disruption to your daily life.

A typical kitchen remodel involves several components. The components are sequential. You can use the following timeline as the estimated time for one kitchen. Though events are happening one after another, contractors and homeowners may discover unpleasant surprises and it will extend the timeline. There are also factors such as size and difficulty of the project.

Planning – This is the first stage of a kitchen renovation project. It takes roughly a week to finalize all details. After all details are complete, the kitchen renovation firm will proceed with ordering all the required materials.

Demolishing – Demolishing is the first step of the execution. It takes one to two days to complete.

Structural – Once demolishing is complete, any structural work will need to get done. Two days for a small loadbearing wall removal to a week for complex metal beam and post-installation.

Plumbing – The plumbing rough-in will start at this stage. Without relocation, disconnecting everything takes about an hour to complete. Relocation will take a day or two depending on complexity.

Mechanical – Occasionally, a heat register or air return must be relocated with the structure. It usually takes one to two days to complete.

Electrical – When adding an island, an electrical plug is required. This also the chance for the homeowner to add pot light, under cabinet lighting, and others in one to three days.

Drywall – After all pre-work is complete, we will seal off the wall and paint. It takes one to three days to complete depending on the amount of damage to the wall.

Flooring – Engineer flooring takes a day or two, and tile takes three to four days to complete.

Cabinet – Cabinet takes one to three days to complete depending on size and complexity.

Countertop – Countertop usually take one day to complete with some exception that may require two days

Backsplash – Quartz backsplash take a day to complete, tile backsplash will take two to three days depend on complexity.

Overall the kitchen process will typically take 5-6 weeks to complete. To minimize disruption to your lives, we recommend prep instant food or portable cooking station such as a BBQ or portable stove during the process. The first week to two will be dusty. We recommend sealing off the door and living space to prevent minor coughing and other side effects.
